If you are wondering what to do for the next weekend, the much anticipated yearly nocturnal extravaganza of spectacular aerial performances and installation artworks are back for the sixth year! Singapore Night Festival 2013 returns with the largest ever nocturnal extravaganza at the heart of Bras Basah Bugis Precinct, stretches from Plaza Singapura to Raffles City over the two Fridays and Saturdays between 24 and 31 August from 7 pm to 2 am. This year Night Fest promises an eclectic mix of aerial performances and installations that illuminate the evening with myriad of colours. During these 2 weekends, take the opportunity to explore the museums for free; National Museum of Singapore, Peranakan Museum and Singapore Art Museum, from 6pm – 2am. I’m sure you’re going to overwhelmed by all the offerings but let me pick out some highlights to get you started.

Compagnie Retouramont make waves in this year Night Fest. Be wowed with the brilliant rhythmic dance performance by a French company that embark on a vertical journey up the façade of the National Museum. Titled “Vertical Extraction”, the light projections amplify the dancers’ silhouette and video projection by acclaimed local artist Victric Thng complement the whole new experience.

“Pyramid of Void“. As the name suggest, a pyramid structure made of ropes is suspended in mid-air, outlining the contours of a void, an abstract space invisible to the eye. With the ropes as their only form of support, dancers demonstrate their acrobatic creativity and agility as they negotiate the minimalist set.

Singapore Art Museum was transformed into an immersive futuristic visual. “The Magic Melody” is collaboration between creative studio Tigrelab and the interactive art practice Welovecode.

Spot the Palomas, the illuminated birds resting on the big tree that overlooks the National Museum of Singapore. The shape of these stylized birds has been inspired by the simplicity of origami and light shines on the wings and the tail, to reveal their shapes.
