As this is my first time in Phnom Penh, I wanted to stay within the city centre and Cambodia’s first Courtyard by Marriott-branded hotel caught my attention. Courtyard by Marriott Phnom Penh is strategically located in the prime location and near major tourist attractions.
The Courtyard is about 30-minute drive (subject to traffic conditions) from Phnom Penh International Airport. You can request the hotel to arrange airport pick up for US$30. However, the cost is significantly more than regular taxi or tuk tuk which are readily available at the airport. Alternatively, you can book your own airport transfer for US$15 via Traveloka.
The entrance of the hotel is located along the busy street of Samdach Pan Avenue. It was a quite afternoon and check-in was quick.
The lobby was relatively small combined with a lounge. There were only 2 wooden benches at the lobby and you could make use of the lounge as a waiting area or to get some snacks and beverages.
I had been assigned to a Deluxe Room on level 10. There are a couple of rooms that was very close to the lift landing. If you need a quiet room, do request for a room away from the elevators.
25-29-square-meter Deluxe room is the lowest room category; a relatively clean and modern contemporary room.
There are 186 guest rooms and suites that overlooks the city.
I like that the room comes with lots of power points and USB outlets for the modern traveller.
Cosy corner to do some work.
Spot Vattanac Capital Tower, the tallest building in Cambodia.
Fully stocked minibar and huge wardrobe for storage.
Clean and modern bathroom
Amenities by Nirvae Botanicals
The gym, pool and rooftop bar is located on the 20th floor. Adequate equipment with nice vies of the city to distract you while your on the treadmill.
The Rooftop bar serves drinks, light snacks and finger food.
Nice spot to catch the sunset.
The pool is small and good enough for a dip. There is an office block being constructed next to the pool and at some point you could hear construction noise.
In the nutshell
Courtyard Phnom Penh is one of the latest properties added to Phnom Penh’s list of choice accommodations. The Courtyard is fairly close to the major sights such as Royal Palace, the historic Wat Phnom, Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, Central Market and Norodom Boulevard. I wouldn’t say it’s a walkable distance (Phnom Penh is not a pedestrian friendly city) but Grab tuk-tuk will only cost you about US$1-2 within city area.
