The iconic Jurong Bird Park (JBP) is home to more than 5,000 birds across 400 species making it Asia’s largest bird park. The park has long been a favourite haunt for school excursions and family day outings. After 50 years of operating, Jurong Bird Park will be relocated to the Mandai nature precinct in 2022 and renamed Bird Paradise. The park operates as per usual while the move is being carried out. JBP holds fond memories and I decided to see the last few glimpses of the park before its closure.
The moment you enter the park, you will be greeted by the entire colony of African Penguins over at the outdoor exhibit of Penguin Coast. These flightless birds are not only found in cold places but they have also made their homes on tropical terrain.
Kept at 10-15 °C, the indoor exhibit features King penguin, Humboldt and Rockhopper species.
The High Flyers Show showcases the birds’ natural talents and spectacular plumage. The yellow-naped Amazon Parrot definitely steal the show when she sang in three languages! Guests are required to book show seats online in advance. Booking portal opens 2 hours before show time.
Some of the birds flutter freely around the surroundings of over 100 plant species and you could enjoy close encounters with them.
Situated at the top of the hill, African Treetops brings together a collection of 300 African birds from over 37 species.
Don’t miss the Waterfall Aviary, one of the world’s largest walk-in aviaries, home to more than 600 birds and a 30-metre-high waterfall.
Do note that some of the park experiences such as Keepers Chit Chat and Birdz of Play Area are currently suspended. F&B outlets in the park are closed except for Hawk Café and Pizza Hut. I would recommend bringing your own food to the park.
