After months of facelift, the Merlion, an iconic tourism mascot celebrates her 40th birthday. To mark the occasion, it has been carefully restored and now reopens to the public with a spectacular show for the period of the week from 12 to 16 September 2012.
Its name combines “mer” meaning the sea and “lion“. The fish body represents Singapore’s origin as a fishing village when it was called Temasek
A special installation titled Merlion & I: An Inspiring Journey to commemorate the event.
This 7-minute display of dazzling light projections, sound, dance and pyrotechnics traces the journey of the Merlion to show how this well-loved icon has evolved to inspire generations of Singaporeans and visitors alike. I’ll let these photos do the talking.
