There are many hiking trails in Taipei but Xiangshan Hiking Trail (also known as Elephant Mountain) is Taipei’s most popular hike and easily accessible. The top of the trail without doubt is the best location to view Taipei 101 and sunset as a backdrop. The hike up is not that difficult but the endless stairs can be intimidating.
Before the Hike
Tips before hiking Elephant Mountain:
- Wear comfortable clothes and shoes.
- Be prepared to sweat buckets. Bring a towel with you.
- Bring along on-the-go snacks and plenty drinking water.

If you are feeling tired, there are plenty of pit stops to rest along the way. If you are in good shape, you can reached the peak within 15 to 20 minutes.
