Maokong Mountain is a nice get away from the bustling city of Taipei. Whether you are into trekking or simply admiring the breath-taking view of Taipei City, spending a few hours at the peak is a must!

The best way to reach the top of Maokong is by taking the Maokong Gondola. I took the Gondola from Taipei Zoo Station as early as 9 am to avoid the crowd. For safety reasons, the gondola will not operate during bad weather. Best if you can check the status at the website before heading to the Gondola Station.

The word Maokong, literally means ‘empty cat‘ or ‘no cat’.

Tea is often associated with Maokong due to its elevation level and cool climate which makes an ideal place to grow tea plantation. Thus, there are many tea houses and cafe located at the peak.
