Get ready for Begonia Brilliance for this June holidays! This is the first time Gardens by the Bay feature Begonia for its changing floral display. Be prepared to be surrounded by more than 20,000 begonia plants and over 50 varieties.
Begonia plants can be found in Asia, Africa and Central and South America.
Believe it or not, Begonia need at least 14 hours of daylight per day. Thus, lights had to be installed in the Flower Dome since Singapore only receives 12 hours of daylight each day.
Under the sea! The floral display filled with coral reefs and multitude of sea creatures.
Keep a lookout for octopus, manta rays, puffer fish surrounded with dazzling begonias.
The begonia blooms are complemented by other varieties of flowering begonias from Europe and Malaysia.
Most flowering begonias produce blooms about 5cm in diameter, but the ones cultivated by the Gardens have blooms that measure between 13cm and 16cm across.
Spot at least 14 flowering begonia varieties cultivated to have supersized blooms, such as Begonia Prima Donna Blush, which produces flowers with pale pink petals that are rimmed with a darker pink, and Begonia Trumpet Orange, which boasts of bright orange flowers.
From now till 2 July 2018. You will enjoy 50% off when you sign up or renew for a 1-year Friends of the Gardens membership.
