Review: PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay [Urban & Signature Marina Bay]

My last stay at PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay was in January 2021 when the hotel was still in the final phase of renovation works. I decided to try out the Urban Room and Signature Marina Bay room on a separate occasion.

Once you reached the entrance of the hotel, you will be greeted with a 13-metre-high green landscape wall. After which, you need to take the elevator to the lobby on level 4.

The indoor atrium has landscaped gardens with trees that stretch nearly 4 levels high and can be admired from the skybridge. This is the first hotel to feature zero-energy sky gardens that are powered by an irrigation system that collects rainwater and solar energy. Hanging above the ceiling is Richard Lippold’s Orchidea, which features a cascade of gleaming circles over a centrepiece of petal-like curves. 2 pm checked in was relatively quick on a Friday afternoon but the snaking queue started to form at 3 pm.

Portman’s bar, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Peppermint and Sushi Jiro is located on the lobby level. Don’t missed out the daily live songbirds twitter from cages.

Urban Room

33 sqm Urban Room overlooking the Padang. All the room has a minimalist layout but Urban Room doesn’t come with a day bed unlike in the Lifestye Room.

Unfortunately, there is no proper work desk but you can use the multi-purpose table below the TV to get work done. On a side note, the 55-inch LG Smart TV has Chromecast support to watch Netflix, youtube or Disney+!

The welcome amenity was already placed on the table when I enter the room which consists of macarons, traditional kueh, cheesecake and a selection of tea. All rooms get the perk of breezy skyline views from your private balcony although it is narrow and unsheltered.

While I appreciate the bidet seat and water filtration system. The bathroom is nothing to shout about.

The minibar and wardrobe are situated next to each other. The kiblat direction for Muslim guests is a nice touch.

Signature Marina Bay Room

Not much different in terms of room size but as the name suggest, the room is facing Marina Bay.

The layout of the bathroom is different this time. I find that the shower cubicle is rather small and claustrophobic. I also don’t see a need for the standalone bidet since the toilet seat is already equipped with the bidet.

View of Marina Bay from the balcony

Mineral Water Pool

Day vs night view of the pool

The 25-metre outdoor pool on level 5 is filled with skin-nourishing mineral water. In the evening, a cosmic-inspired swimming pool features some 1,380 twinkling fibre optic lights. The functional open space overlooking the city skyline situated next to the pool host occasional outdoor yoga session. The refurbished gym is also located on the same level.

Peppermint is an all-day halal dining concept. you’ll be asked to pre-book a breakfast slot during check-in. Get the earliest slot as the queue gets long around 9 am.

Don’t miss the urban farm next to Peppermint Restaurant that houses over 60 varieties of fruits, vegetables, herbs and edible flowers, providing the farm-to-table, farm-to-bar and farm-to-spa concept for the hotel’s other facilities. This farm uses the hotel’s leftover coffee grounds as compost and also recycles their aluminium coffee capsule waste in an environmentally friendly way.

In a Nutshell

The hotel has an Instaworthy atrium and beautifully renovated facilities. You can expect everything is new except the outdated bathrooms with different fittings in the same room category. With over 500 rooms, do manage your expectations when it comes to service and cleanliness standards.

Pros

  • Newly renovated rooms and facilities
  • All rooms equipped with on tap faucet water filtration
  • Muslim-friendly hotel
  • Close to malls

Cons

  • Outdated bathroom

Rating: 4 out of 5.
