
The civic district has undergone a colourful makeover till 3 February as a marquee event of Singapore Art Week, Light to Night Festival. 2022 edition of the festival inspires everyone to engage with the world anew through the theme “New Ways of Seeing, Thinking and Being”. This year’s theme champions the collective pursuit of new perspectives and states of mind to gain a better understanding of how the world has evolved in the “new normal”.
Do take nightly strolls around the Civic District and enjoy the colourful world of light projections from local talents that illuminate the precinct’s cultural institutions.
Art Skins on Monuments: Refractioned
Refractioned is a psyberpunk journey through the multiverse created using proprietary real-time image synthesis techniques. It blends photographs of HDB facades with iconic Singaporean architecture that were captured during the circuit breaker period in 2020.

Flight

Inspired by a flock of birds in motion, the installation appears as a singular volume from a distance. When you inspect closer, it reveals an illusion of motion with an interplay of light and shadows that constantly reorientates its context.

This installation explores the embedded psychogeographies of Singapore’s land reclamation and urban development since its colonial founding. At the site of the Padang, the installation subtly recalls the myths of the nation’s history prior to its colonial past, and post-independence development.
