“Dotonbori” refers to both Dotonbori Canal and Dotonbori Street which runs parallel to the canal’s southern bank. It is one of the most bustling areas and a must-visit for a first timer in Osaka. Dotonbori is also known for its eye-catching signage and illuminated billboards. The Glico running man is the most notable sign located near Ebisubashi Bridge. The first Glico sign was installed here in 1935 and over the years it has become a popular landmark amongst the locals. In my opinion, Dotonbori is definitely worth a look during the day and night.
Dress into ruin in Kyoto, eat into ruin in Osaka
Osaka is called the “Kitchen of Japan”. Dotonbori is actually the best place in Osaka to experience kuidaore; to ruin oneself by extravagance in food.
Tips: If you are looking for halal meal, head down to Ali’s Kitchen, a muslim owned restaurant serving Arabic and Pakistani dishes located near Shinsaibashi Station.
