Sad to hear that the iconic pufferfish-shaped paper lantern was taken down after the Zuboraya restaurant official closure in September 2020. Opened in 1920, the first pufferfish (fugu) restaurant in Osaka made the decision to close down the restaurant due to the pandemic and tight market. Measuring 5m long and 3m wide hanging above the street, the giant fish with “Zuboraya” written across its belly had become a symbol of Osaka’s Shinsekai entertainment district over the years.

These photos was taken during my visit to Osaka in 2015.
How unfortunate! I remember making a dozen photos of this pufferfish. Shinsekai is not the same anymore :(
I share the same sentiments, Len!
