Celebrate 2013: Marina Bay Singapore Countdown

lonelytraveog-official-blogger

Without realising, it’s back to December baby!!  Our life is made up of time. Our days are measured in hours. Our knowledge is measured by years and time is a brisk wind for each year it brings something new. Following the Christmas season, I am pleased to announce that Lonely Travelog will be one of the five official blogs for the Marina Bay Singapore Countdown 2013. This yearly anticipated event is jointly presented by Esplanade and the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA). This annual event alongside its festivities during New Year Eve brings people from all walks of life together and visitors from all over the world, allowing them to strengthen existing relationships and forge new ones while soaking in the atmosphere of ushering the New Year. Join me and my fellow official bloggers, The Wacky Duo, The Cambelles, Darren Bloggie & Deenise Glitz, as we will bring you the latest in preparation and the line-up of happening activities as well as exclusive behind the scenes to usher in 2013.

1. Wishing Spheres Project

Setting a New Year’s resolution is a useful way to start the year as it provides us with direction, but just how many of us set those resolutions and actually seek to achieve it. It is easier said than done, unless you put your heart and mind into it.

This year’s Wishing Spheres Project theme revolves around Gratitude. Ask yourself what are you grateful for, and how you can do your part to express your gratification. Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow. Once you have your aspirations in mind, pen down your wishes at any of the 27 wishing stations located across the island. Each wishing sphere represents a heartfelt hope, a belief that the New Year will bring new possibilities and a brighter tomorrow. Nearing the New Year eve, these spheres will be placed afloat on the waters of Marina Bay; the Bay of Hope and Light.

Alternatively if you’re unable to visit the wishing stations, fret not! Modern day telecommunications technology has allowed you to still pen down your wishes for 2013 on the virtual Wishing Spheres! Don’t forget to send an online Wish Card with your personalised greetings to your friends and families in Singapore or overseas.

Fireworks

On top of the all-star studded countdown concert, one showstopper that never fails to delight audiences is the highly anticipated fireworks display. Accompanied by a commissioned musical score themed “Dari Tanah Ini” which literally means “From This Earth, written by Cultural Medallion winner, musician and composer, Mr Iskandar Ismail, audiences will be captivated to a whopping 8 minutes fireworks spectacle. With strobe lights lined up along the Esplanade Waterfront, thousands of wishing spheres come to life as they’re illuminated by the dazzling dancing lights beneath the palette of stunning fireworks, amidst the backdrop of towering skyscrapers of the Central Business District. And as all of us are enthralled by the fireworks display, we reflect upon our past and pay homage to our humble beginnings.

For those who are unable to join the celebration, a live broadcast will be shown on Channel NewsAsia and also on MediaCorp radio station Symphony 92.4FM.

  1. Thanks for stopping our blog! We were in Singapore two years ago and went to Marina Bay and really enjoyed the city in general. We have a cousin who lives there and who was really great about showing us around which made it even more fun. I like your blog!
