Review: Hotel Indigo Singapore Katong

‘Old-School’ is best to describe Hotel Indigo Singapore Katong, the first boutique hotel chain property in Singapore under InterContinental Hotels Group. As the name suggest, the hotel is located at Katong district, a location with strong Peranakan heritage influences. The hotel housed in the former Joo Chiat police station, features design infused with the local Peranakan culture; art murals in the rooms depict the laidback, communal lifestyle of the neighborhood. Even though the location is a tad further from the city, it is easy to get there by bus.

The lobby is well decorated with peranakan influence. Notice the colourful designs on the wall behind the reception? It is made up from bits of porcelain wares and tiles. While waiting for the check-in process to be completed, I was offered a welcome drink with the choice of iced latte or tea.

Level 14th corridor.

The Premier King room is 30 sqm with splendid view of Katong shophouses.

Every details has traits of Peranakan heritage.

A carrom board as a coffee table.

The display cabinet is well-stocked with mini bar, complimentary coffee & tea and Nespresso machine. The red clogs also make an appearance as a decorative piece.

Complimentary old school sweets is a nice touch.

Huge wardrobe with electronic safe box.

Each room has a separate toilet and shower area.

The open concept bathroom has a sliding door if you need privacy.

Only 12 of the Premium rooms comes with a bath tub. As for those room without, an enamel wash basin with a range of Biology Smart Skincare products is provided for DIY foot spa experience.

The bathroom has a spittoon as a bin and a clever use of Singer sewing machine base as the vanity counter and basin.

The shower area is located behind the wash basin.

All rooms are provided with Biology Smart Skincare bath amenities.

View of Katong district from the room.

Level 17

The 25m-long infinity pool is not to be missed. You can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Joo Chiat neighbourhood.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay at Hotel Indigo. I love the peranakan concept and every corner is a Instagram-worthy spot. Even though the location is far off from the city, there are plenty of restaurants and amenities near the premises. If you are planing to catch a late night movie, the cinema located at 112 Katong Mall is just a stone’s throw away.
