Bigger and better, Tulipmania is back by popular demand at the Flower Dome, Gardens by the Bay till 4 May 2014. Be prepared to be wowed by 50,000 tulip bulbs of many varieties and myriad of colours directly from the Netherlands. Tulips are delicate plants that usually last for about a week after flowering, but their lifespan can stretch to about 10 to 12 days with the climate-controlled conditions at the Flower Dome.
Flown in directly from Netherlands, the tulip bulbs will spruce up the Flower Field housed within the Flower Dome.
With their beautiful bright cup or star-shaped blooms, it is no surprise that tulips have become a garden favourite and are widely cultivated. Tulips belong to the same family as lillies, and are relatives of the family that includes onions.
Inspired by Madurodam, the miniature replica model park in Amsterdam, Netherlands, this year’s display depicts scenes of Dutch canals, houses and windmills set amidst spectacular blooms of tulips and hyacinths.
Did you know? Hyacinth bulbs, as with other bulbs such as Tulips, Narcissus and Lilies are poisonous. They should be handled while wearing gloves to prevent skin irritation.
The entire tulip fields produce a sweet and light scent which add a lovely aroma to the Flower Dome.
Can you spot the beloved Dutch icon, Miffy?

Tulips of different colours carry different meanings. For instance, Red: Declaration of love. Yellow: Sunshine in your smile. White: Purify and forgiveness. Purple: Royalty and wealth.

Daeng, you should enter the photo contest! It’s on the GBB website. Nice pics! :)
Hi Kelly, yes I have that in mind too!! Have you visit the Tulipmania yet?
Yes, I went on Tuesday! So beautiful and so fun to photograph! I go to the gardens every month or so. One of my favorite places in Singapore. Hope you’re doing well! :)
I’m good! I think you should join in the photography contest too. I took tonnes of photos. One of the reasons I love about the gardens is the cool temperature especially knowing how humid and warm Singapore can be haha!
I totally agree! :) Such a nice escape! Walking to the Bayfront MRT after being in the domes isn’t so bad. I like walking by the water, too.
Tulipmania is the perfect name. I am left speechless by your post…and that is saying something. :)
Exactly! A pretty sight indeed.
I wish there will be another Tulipmania this year. I am so fascinated by these flowers. Really want to touch it physically, not only by touching your photos on my computer monitor… *grin #envy
